How did I get my Digital Marketing Internship
This Summer, I wanted to begin equipping myself with the necessary skills for entry into the working world. My time spent during university so far solidified my interest in marketing. With that in mind, I decided an internship would help me gain experience. I approached Pod Digital and asked to be considered as a possible digital marketing intern.
Pod were happy to receive my call and were very keen to help me. After submitting my CV to Pod, and discussing my goals, I was able to acquire a start date for the digital marketing internship!
What did my Digital Marketing Internship Involve?
My time spent as a digital marketing intern allowed me to experiment with several roles. I primarily focused on the content element – which involved writing blogs, guest posts, FAQs, lead magnets and video transcripts. I was also given the opportunity to expand my creativity further, through the creation of infographics for a diverse range of clients.
In conjunction with content writing, I was also given experience to try roles surrounding SEO – where I did technical research on keywords, site speed and directory listings. Through these experiences, I was able to familiarise myself with many software applications like: Looker Studio, Google keyword planner, Canva and more!
What I Enjoyed Most About the Role?
I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to try a broad range of tasks and am very grateful for the team who helped nurture my skills. From the very beginning, I was immersed into a community of friendly people, who were always ready to support me when required. My most memorable experience would definitely be the Summer Party! Tackling the tricky obstacle courses whilst bonding with the team really helped to foster an enjoyable experience.
What was the Most Beneficial Thing I Took Away with Me?
This digital marketing internship has enhanced my adaptability, as well as my ability to learn. Being submerged into a new social environment, with little experience in digital marketing forced me to discover ways to make myself comfortable. This adaptability will become most useful for the upcoming future.
Also, since I had never come across many of the tasks before, I was forced to learn the skills in a timely manner. This need to grasp the task efficiently thus honed my capacity to learn.
What was the Biggest Difficulty I faced During my Work Experience in Digital Marketing?
The hardest challenge during this digital marketing intern experience was tackling unknown areas. Most noticeably, I had no experience with Looker Studio or how to conduct directory listings beforehand. I’ve always had a keen eye for perfection, so it was definitely uncomfortable to be posed with something new.
However, the team was helpful in guiding me through these activities and instilled confidence in me to try the tasks independently. As a result, I have now developed several new skills from having little to no foundation in them.
What are my Tips for Getting an Internship in Digital Marketing
- Be Proactive
There are plenty of opportunities in digital marketing available, and many companies willing to help you nurture your talents. Ensure to spend time exploring what is available to you, or like me, get in contact with your company of interest directly!.
- Be Open-Minded
Be prepared that the opportunities that come round may be different to what you expect as a digital marketing intern. You will find yourself touching areas that you will have never considered! However, trying something new is a great way to stretch your abilities and even pick up a new interest.
- Do Your Research Beforehand
In order to convince others that you are a suitable candidate for the role, ensure to research thoroughly into the company beforehand. Knowing what the company does and its core values not only highlights your interest, but also allows you to assess whether the company is suited to you!
Embarking on a digital marketing internship has been an enriching experience, offering many invaluable lessons.
